2020 First Ice Fishing “Trips”

Huron 1/5/20

I took just 2 trips since getting the new wheeler together. One was on a small local lake searching for crappie and getting the feel for the new unit. The Sportsman ran awesome and was a joy to use. The lake has crappie and I was looking in the basin for them but was unable to locate any fish. I drilled at least 60 holes but it was for not.

The second trip was on The “Pete” looking for Walleye. The first stop on my trip was southwest of the county park towards the channel edge. I thought I was the only one who knew of this spot but this was not the case. I had been here before the new year and had a great couple of days fishing catching over 50 walleye in 2 days. I didn’t want to intrude on the 2 fellow fishermen that where already there (late start on my part). I fished an area that yielded a 27.5 inch walleye last month. I marked fish but the only one to bite was a 14″ white bass. I fished for over and hour changing baits and also running a dead stick. I then decided to move and try some other spots that have yielded fish in the past. The lake was crazy rough with all the vehicle traffic over the last week. I have never seen so many people spread out on the lake in the past but with other lake not being safe I guess I understood. The other spots I tried (three) didn’t produce fish either so I packed it up for the day. eye 27.5

I am a fisherman from Wisconsin that fished primarily Lake Wisconsin and learned early on what a great Walleye fishery it is. I have since moved on to different lakes finding out that not every Walleye body of water is created equal. I am fascinated by Walleye and the skill it takes to catch this elusive fish. I am hoping to share some tips, tricks and a few trips along the way to help you with your quest for finding Walleye.
